The curriculum of our Dental Assisting Program focuses on the practical, hands-on training needed to master Dental Assisting skills.
Dental Careers Foundation of Indianapolis (DCF) was established in 1993. Since then our program has constantly been improved to reflect the most recent changes in dentistry. In 2007 when Indiana state law changed regarding Dental Radiology licensing, our curriculum was revised and now includes added emphasis on Radiology with the goal of maximum preparation for the required national Radiology test.
Highlights of the Chairside Dental Assisting Program:

DCF is unlike some programs that last 6-12 months, cost many thousands of dollars and have little “hands-on” training! In ten weeks, with a focus on practical training and limited expense, DCF students have a solid foundation of skills and are able to successfully enter the dental profession.
Benjamin D. Ahlbrecht, D.D.S. – Director of Clinics
Dr. Ahlbrecht is a graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry and runs a successful dental practice on the north side of Indianapolis. He is an instructor in the 10 week dental assisting program and truly enjoys giving future dental assistants excellent guidance during their on-the-job training. Every successful dental office has an excellent dental assistant, and excellent dental assistants have a solid foundation to rely on. At Dental Careers Foundation of Indianapolis, Aimee and Dr. Ahlbrecht strive to provide the best foundation for every dental assistant.
Aimee Cookston – Director of Education
Aimee is a graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry Dental Assisting/Expanded Functions program. She has 30 years of dental experience, both chairside and in office management. Aimee’s clinical knowledge has proven to be extremely valuable to our school. She is a real people person that truly cares about our students, she always strives to achieve positive results.
Elizabeth Mulry – Lead Instructor
Liz graduated from Dental Careers Foundation in 2008 and continued her education in 2013 by becoming an expanded functions dental assistant through Ivy Tech. The bulk of her career has been spent in general dentistry but recently she started working for an orthodontic office. This has allowed her to further her knowledge and experience. In 2014 she started instructing for Dental Careers Foundation where she gets to pass along her passion for dental to future assistants. Liz loves seeing each group of students develop the skills needed for their new career. In June of 2016, Liz married her husband Malcolm in Brown County. They now reside in Johnson County with their two “fur babies”, Teagan and JJ, and spend their summers on their boat on Dale Hollow Lake.
Rich Brown – Instructor
Rich has been with Dental Careers Foundation since 2003, first as a student, and then in 2007 he became an instructor. Instructing future dental assistants is one of his passions. Rich started his career in the dental industry in his early 30’s. Getting to know the students and helping them reach their dreams and potential in this great profession is truly fulfilling for him. Rich currently works as an orthodontic technician at a local orthodontic practice. He lives on the east side of town with his 3 dachshunds and enjoys furniture repair and home remodeling.
